IKO (International Kiteboarding Organisation) offers certified training for kiteboarders through its qualified and specially trained instructors and schools. Adventure Sports Kitesurf Australia are an independantly owned IKO accredited training centre and use only IKO qualified instructors.
Get Certified
To obtain IKO accreditation you need to participate in either group or private training sessions. There are 3 levels to the IKO certification with minor levels obtainable within each level.
Level 1
This level includes all the basic training you need to get into kitesurfing safely. Wind effect, launching, landing, gear selection, set up, wind window, kite aerodynamics and of coarse basic kiteflying techniques. Our starter group lesson covers many of the components required for this level at a cost of $150.00 for 2hrs. However our private One on One lessons provide customised training to suit your personal level and generally provide a quicker progression than group lessons.
Level 2
Level 2 moves past basic kite techniques to body dragging (propelling yourself through the water using the power of the kite), independent set up of equipment, trimming of the kite and board theory along with board start. This level is an indication your skills in kitesurfing have advanced and you are able to kitesurf independently and continue you training with your own equipment. Level 2 is also a minimum requirement for the hiring of equipment from IKO shops world wide (subject to independent shop policies).
Our private One on One lesson will give you an excellent chance of obtaining many of the level 2 requirements in one or two sessions. These One on One lessons are conducted using Headzone one way coaching helmets, meaning your instructor can give you immediate and timely instruction right when you need it. These lessons start from $250.00 for 2 1/2 hours.
Level 3
This is the final level of IKO accreditation and gives you the minimum required level to consider and begin training in a career as an IKO instructor. This level covers right of way rules, riding both ways, changing direction without stopping, recover your board in deep water, ride upwind and how to perform a small jump. Our instruction doesn’t stop here, if you would like to learn more advanced moves, then speak to us about advanced boardriding skills.
IKO accreditation for experienced kitesurfers
You might be considering an overseas trip and wish to hire equipment or you may have decided a career as an instructor is for you. If this is the case, then ask us about accrediation for your existing kitesurfing skill level. For $100.00 our IKO instructors can certify your IKO level and award you the internationally recognised IKO card, enabling you to hire equipment from IKO affiliated shops worldwide (subject to individual shop policy).
